Keynote Speaker

We are thrilled to announce our distinguished keynote speaker, U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, a leading voice for justice reform and equity in Rhode Island and across the nation. A longtime advocate for fairness, accountability, and evidence-based approaches within the justice system, Senator Whitehouse has championed initiatives that prioritize rehabilitation, prevention, and community-based solutions for youth. His keynote address at the Advancing Juvenile Justice Conference will offer powerful insights into how policy, partnership, and innovation can shape a more just and compassionate future for young people and families.

About Senator Sheldon Whitehouse

Sheldon Whitehouse represents Rhode Island in the United States Senate, where he has earned a reputation as a fierce advocate for progressive values and a thoughtful legislator capable of reaching across the aisle to achieve bipartisan solutions.

As a senior member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Senator Whitehouse has worked hard to make the country’s juvenile justice system safer for young people.  In 2018, Whitehouse coauthored and secured passage of the first update to flagship federal juvenile justice legislation in almost twenty years.  The Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Reauthorization Act reduced the unnecessary incarceration of youth, improved safeguards for minors who encounter the justice system, and strengthened services that encourage a smooth transition back into society.  This year, Senator Whitehouse introduced the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Reauthorization Act of 2025 to reauthorize key grant programs like the Youth PROMISE program, the only federal program that provides delinquency prevention funding directly to local communities to reach at-risk youth.  Whitehouse is also a long-time supporter of mentorship programs for teens and young adults.

The Senator served as Rhode Island’s United States Attorney and Attorney General before being elected to the United States Senate in 2006.
