Neighborhood Health Plan of Rhode Island gifts FSRI $5,000 towards Brighter Futures award ceremony

Family Service of Rhode Island joined with Neighborhood Health Plan of Rhode Island this month to announce a $5,000 Brighter Futures sponsorship that will support programming to improve wellbeing and foster safe homes for children and families in communities across Rhode Island. The sponsorship marks a continuation of FSRI’s partnership with NHPRI, a longtime supporter and ally, as both organizations are closely aligned with both providing essential resources for underserved Rhode Islanders.

Over the next year, the funding will support FSRI programs like Be Safe, which has provided more than 26,000 Rhode Islanders with PPE, cleaning supplies, and shelf-stable food since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic and economic crisis started in March 2020.

“As a health plan founded to address the health needs of the state’s most vulnerable populations 25 years ago, a partnership with FSRI has always made sense to us,” said Brenda Seagrave-Whittle, Chief Marketing Officer at NHPRI. “We are honored to support FSRI and the many Rhode Islanders whose lives are made better by the organization’s crucial programs.”

As everyday life for Rhode Islanders has been turned upside down, and public health has become one of the state’s most pressing concerns, NHPRI’s number one priority has stayed the same. NHRI continues to ensure that members have access to high-quality health care, even if the way they receive it may look and feel a little different. During these unprecedented times, NHPRI quickly expanded their telemedicine policies and took extra steps to check on high-risk members — mobilizing clinical teams to conduct targeted care management outreach efforts through an “every call, every issue” strategy.

“We engaged our partners – the Community Health Centers and the provider community – who directly serve at-risk populations, as well as community organizers, local faith leaders and city officials. Knowing these groups would need extra resources, Neighborhood stepped up and provided personal protective equipment, other medical supplies, food donations and funding,” Seagrave-Whittle said.

NHPRI also recognizes the significant emotional and spiritual Rhode Islanders have faced throughout this crisis, and in accompanying FSRI to meet the direct needs of our community, the health plan is steadfast in their mission. “We are driven by purpose, founded to address people’s needs and, every decision we make is aimed at making every day a better day for our members. Our mission is to provide access to high-quality, affordable health care and we don’t take that honor lightly. Our mission, vison and values guide our decisions about the way we serve our members, the people we hire, and the relationships we build with state, federal and community partners,” said Seagrave-Whittle.
