We believe that every child has a right to a safe childhood free of violence. April, Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention Month, is an important time to start the conversation in our communities about how we can keep our children safe. On average, a child abuse report is made every 10 seconds for a total of approximately 3.3 million child abuse reports each year. Studies have shown that child abuse crosses all boundaries of income, race, ethnic heritage, and religious faith.

April was first declared Child Abuse Prevention Month in 1983. Since then, April has been a time to acknowledge the importance of families and communities working together to prevent child abuse. We hope that you will join Sarah Kelly-Palmer, LICSW and Kayla David, LMFT this Wednesday at 10 am for a discussion about promoting prevention resources available for Rhode Island families. This week we are excited to have Emily Matthews, LMHC, CAGS a clinical supervisor with Rhode Island's Family Care Community Partnership (FCCP).
