Family Service of Rhode Island, Pawtucket Schools Launch City's First Walking School Bus

Family Service of Rhode Island (FSRI) and the Pawtucket School Department have launched Pawtucket’s first “Walking School Bus.”


The Walking School Bus involves adults walking elementary school students to class by following a route, like a bus does, and walking together in groups. The Walking School Bus promotes school attendance, daily exercise, and positive relationships between the young students and the adult route leaders. In 2015, Pawtucket residents identified the Walking School Bus as a community priority in the Pawtucket and Central Falls Health Equity Zone Action Plan.

Family Service of RI's Police Partnership Receive Nation Award

Family Service of Rhode Island (FSRI) has received a national award recognizing its work with several Rhode Island police departments to provide psychological first aid and other help to victims of crime and violence.

 

FSRI’s CEO said she would like to see their police partnership model replicated in all communities in Rhode Island and beyond. Currently it involves the Providence Police, the East Providence Police and the State Police.

In celebration of its 125th anniversary, Family Service of Rhode Island (FSRI) earlier this year offered the “#125Kindness School Challenge” to all Rhode Island schools.

 

Today FSRI, a statewide non-profit social service and education agency, announced the winners.

Delta Dental Donates $25,000 Towards FSRI’s Brighter Future Luncheon

Providence, RI –September 19, 2017— Family Service of Rhode Island (FSRI) is pleased to announce that Delta Dental of Rhode Island has contributed $25,000 to FSRI’s thirteenth annual Brighter Futures Luncheon honoring Brown University and their President Christina Paxson. This donation marks the biggest sponsorship of the event so far and pushes FSRI closer to its $250,000 fundraising goal.

Family Service of Rhode Island Launches #125Kindness Challenge for Schools

Providence, RI –September 6, 2017— Family Service of Rhode Island (FSRI) announced today the launch of their Kindness Challenge, a contest that challenges students to perform acts of kindness and document their efforts in creative ways. Winners of the challenge will be chosen by a panel and prizes will be awarded on World Kindness Day (November 13, 2017) to the top three schools whose submissions best reflect the true spirit of kindness. FSRI’s Kindness Challenge is part of agency’s 125th Anniversary Celebration and is using the hashtag #125Kindness.

Providence, RI –August 7, 2017— FSRI (Family Service of Rhode Island) will be holding its second Block Party of the summer in support of local artists and the communities of South Providence. The block party will be on Tuesday August 8th at Harriet & Sayles Park next to Mary E. Fogarty Elementary School. Each event will run from 5 P.M. to 7:30 P.M.

Dexter Donation Trust Awards Family Service of Rhode Island $1,000

Mayor Jorge Elorzo Presented Award During Ceremony in the Alderman’s Chamber of Providence City Hall

 

Providence, RI – August 2 , 2017— The Dexter Donation Trust has awarded Family Service of Rhode Island $1,000 in support of their Walking School Bus Program in South Providence. Stephen Hourahan, FSRI’s Chief Advancement Officer, accepted the check at a ceremony August 1st, at 4:30 P.M. in the Alderman’s Chamber of Providence City Hall.

Victims' Grove Ceremony Annoucement

Please join Family Service of Rhode Island (FSRI) and the Attorney General's Office on April 5th at 12:30 in Memorial Park on South Main Street in Providence for the annual Victims' Grove Ceremony. The ceremony is part of the larger National Crime Victims' Rights Week  raising awareness about victims of crime and the support available to them. This year's Crime Victims' Rights Week runs from April 2nd through April 8th with the theme of "Strength. Resilience. Justice."

FSRI kicked off a ‘year of celebration’ to mark the agency’s 125th anniversary at a reception hosted by Christina Paxson, President of Brown University. At the reception, Margaret Holland McDuff also announced that FSRI plans to honor President Paxson and Brown University by presenting them with the agency’s annual Brighter Futures Award later in the year.
