07/14/10 Brighter Futures Award Recipient: William Hatfield

William Hatfield, Bank of America’s Rhode Island market president, has been named the recipient of the 2010 Brighter Futures Award from non-profit Family Service of Rhode Island.

Mr. Hatfield, who is also managing director and regional executive of U.S. Trust, Bank of America Private Wealth Management, will receive the award on Wednesday, September 29, 2010, noon at the “Brighter Futures” luncheon at the Rhode Island Convention Center.

“Bill has a deep and personal commitment to philanthropy,” said Family Service of RI CEO Margaret Holland McDuff.  “He’s a philanthropic leader, always helping out good causes and urging others to help.  He also works behind the scenes.  His private generosity, of his time and treasure, has helped Family Service of RI and other RI organizations caring for children.”

Mr. Hatfield is chairman of the board of the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce, and serves on the board of United Way of Rhode Island and Crossroads Rhode Island. He’s a trustee for Women & Infants Hospital and the Providence Foundation, and serves as a director of the Rhode Island Public Expenditure Council and the Rhode Island Bankers Association.  He was a longtime member and officer of Family Service of Rhode Island’s board of directors.

Laurie White, president of the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce and co-chair of the Brighter Futures luncheon honoring Mr. Hatfield, praised his leadership in the business community.  “Bill knows that a strong business sector is critical to improving the quality of life for all Rhode Islanders.  As chairman of the chamber’s board and a longtime board member, he has worked tirelessly to address the many economic challenges facing the state,” she said.

Michael Ryan, co-chair of the luncheon and regional president-Rhode Island of National Grid, called Mr. Hatfield “a valuable leader at so many levels in the Ocean State.”

“Bill has brought energy, experience and insight to his leadership of the business community and his work for non-profits,” he said.  “He’s an excellent choice to receive Family Service of Rhode Island’s ‘Brighter Futures’ award.”
