08/07/07 Agency Receives Year Up's Urban Empowerment Award
Family Service of Rhode Island has received Year Up's Urban Empowerment Award for its on-the-ground support of Ocean State families and its extensive network of partnerships with other non-profit organizations, health care facilities and businesses.
Year Up is a non-profit providing low-income urban youth ages 18 through 24 with access to livable wage careers and post-secondary education.
Family Service of Rhode Island received the award recently at Year Up's graduation of its fourth class. Twenty-two students graduated from the program.
Ceremonies took place August 1 at the Westin in Providence, and featured as speakers Brian Burke, director of government affairs for Microsoft; State Representative Steven Costantino; and three graduates.
Year Up was founded in 2000 and has locations in Providence, Boston, the city of New York, and Washington, D.C.
