01/31/07 Emma C. Harris Foundation Awards Agency $8,000   The trustees of the Emma C. Harris Foundation have awarded an $8,000 grant to Family Service of Rhode Island. The grant is to fund a new program for girls living in the agency's group homes. Girls typically live in these residential treatment facilities, located in several Rhode Island communities, from six months to more than a year due to abuse and other issues.  The funded program will be a gender-specific approach to teaching pre-adolescent and adolescent girls about proper nutrition, personal responsibility, standing up to peer pressure, self-defense and more.
