10/16/09 Congressman Kennedy Receives Award Monday
Congressman Patrick J. Kennedy will receive Family Service of RI’s annual Brighter Futures Award on Monday, October 19, noon, at the RI Convention Center.
The non-profit annually recognizes a person or organization making life better for Rhode Island’s children. Past recipients include the Boston Red Sox, the Pawtucket Red Sox, Senator Jack Reed, Providence Mayor David Cicilline, and the city’s police chief, Colonel Dean Esserman.
The actual award is a work of art from renowned Rhode Island artist Mimi Sammis, who has a program on RI PBS television.
Speakers at the event, in addition to Congressman Kennedy, include Margaret Holland McDuff, Family Service of RI’s chief executive officer; Providence Mayor David Cicilline; and Donald R. Sweitzer, GTECH corporation chairman. NBC 10 news anchor Patrice Wood is the emcee.
The event is a fundraiser for Family Service of RI.
