12/23/05 Agency Featured in New England Psychologist

Family Service of Rhode Island's successful effort to obtain a $420,000 two-year grant to help young victims of violence has been featured in New England Psychologist magazine.

As noted in the story, the grant is designed to help children six and younger who have witnessed violence.  Their families will also be assisted.

Services include mental health treatment, language assistance, and advocacy.

The program is part of a national study sponsored by the U.S. Department of Justice to determine best practice standards for helping children affected by violence.

In addition to Family Service of Rhode Island, partner agencies in what's called "Providence Safe Start" are the Rhode Island Coalition Against Domestic Violence, the Rhode Island Family Court, the Providence Police Department, and the Rhode Island Department of Children, Youth and Families.
