02/25/11 A Spreehive Winner! Spreehive.com has officially announced that Family Service of RI placed 2nd in the Spreehive.com non-profit giveaway contest, earning $18,500 in cash and benefits. Spreehive.com is a new, local social buying site. During the recent holiday season, many RI non-profits urged their supporters to visit Spreehive.com to vote for them to share in $85,000 in cash and services. Family Service of RI urged on its supporters using email and social media (Facebook & Twitter), garnering more than 1,000 votes. First place went to Alzheimer's Cure Foundation; 3rd, Higher Ground International; 4th, Spurwink, RI; and 5th, House of Hope. "We thank our many supporters who facebooked, tweeted, emailed and voted so we were able to obtain this generous donation from Spreehive.com," said Stephen L. Hug, Family Service of RI senior VP of development and communications. Shoppers at Spreehive.com have the option of selecting one of the winning charities to designate 5% of the sale as a donation.  "We hope that our supporters utilizing Spreehive.com will continue helping the work of Family Service of RI by designating us as their charity," he said.  (end)
