03/16/07 NBC 10, National Grid Execs Head Brighter Futures Fundraise

          Lisa Churchville                        Michael Ryan

Family Service of Rhode Island’s annual fundraising event, the Brighter Futures Award, will be guided by top executives from NBC 10 WJAR and National Grid.

Lisa Churchville, president and general manager of NBC 10 WJAR, and Michael F. Ryan, president of the Rhode Island distribution company of National Grid, will co-chair this year’s fundraiser, slated to take place this fall.  The 2007 recipient and the date and location of the event will be announced in the near future.

The Brighter Futures Award is presented to persons or organizations making outstanding contribution to the well-being of children in the Ocean State.  Last year, the award recipients were the Boston Red Sox, the PawSox and the Red Sox Foundation for adopting Family Service of Rhode Island’s group home for little boys.

Ms. Churchville has been with NBC 10 since 1997, previously working in Philadelphia, Chicago and New York. She is chair of the Providence Public Library, and serves on the boards of the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce, Women & Infants’ Hospital and the Rhode Island Philharmonic.

Mr. Ryan joined the former Narragansett Electric Company in 1994.  Prior to that he served for eight years as the Rhode Island director of the office of U.S. Senator John H. Chafee.  He also worked for nearly a decade in the executive branch of Rhode Island state government—most notably as special assistant and press secretary to Governor J. Joseph Garrahy.  Mr. Ryan is vice chair of the Rhode Island Board of Governors for Higher Education, and was appointed by Governor Donald Carcieri to serve as a member of the Board of Governors of the Rhode Island Commodores, the Public Advisory Committee of the Rhode Island Bays, Rivers and Watersheds Coordination Team and the Rhode Island Economic Policy Council.  He’s chair of Girls and Boys Town of New England, Inc. and is on the board of trustees for the John E. Fogarty Foundation.
